13 Home Trends for 2022

Posted by Sherry Delgado on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at 2:24pm.

Stealing the spotlight in 2022 for home buyers is a safe place to call home and adequate space.  The trends today, and in the near future, are homes that provide better design and function.

1.  Hight Speed Internet and Broadband - If a home doesn't have a good digital infrastructure, work from home buyers may not be interested.

2.Quality, Quality, Quality - Aside from location, location, location, Buyers are looking for quality building materials, systems and  appliances.

3. In-Home Theaters, Yoga Studio or Sophisticated Lounge - These are areas of the home people welcome in 2022 to unwind and/or stay fit in the home.

4.Purple is the New Gray (or Black) - This can be a neutral color in the home and can easily be paired with earthy color palettes or for more vibrant colors stick with the jewel tones.  Either way, make your home "Your Home".

5. More Outdoor Changes: Homeowners are looking to relax or entertain outdoors.  Preferences are flat yards with more usable space, adding a pool with outdoor kitchens and comfortable outdoor furniture.

6. Mid-Century Modern and Contemporary Chic:  Simple design with warm and inviting tones are most desirable.

7. First Floor Bedroom.  Yes or No? - Simply put,  this is a personal preference and depends on your lifestyle.

8. Open Plan Living? Yes, but... - Open floor plans are still a top choice for Buyers.  Many Buyers question the use of rooms that are "chopped up" and have a hard time with design.  Homes with a lot of rooms generally take longer to sell.

9. Maximalism - While Minimalism is fading, Maximalism is on the rise. People are filling their homes with comfortable furnishings, rugs, art and collections with character.  Use texture, color, mixed metal, and fabric to create a comfortable cozy home.

10. Spotlight on Ceiling - Also known as the "fifth wall".  Experiment with color, wood detail, moldings.  Remove dated popcorn and go for the smooth look.  Ceilings can add a bit of drama to a room so give it a go.

11. Smaller, but not Tiny- Smaller homes are definitely on trend, but not tiny.  They can offer comfortable and functional living.

12.  All-Electric Homes- Home Buyers are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, so using products that reduce fossil fuels just make sense.  The use of solar, wind, geothermal, etc. is definitely a 2022 trend.

13. Multifamily Breakout Spaces - Developers and managers of multifamily buildings learned the importance of having "breakout spaces" for socializing and work.
